Timeline of Women's Struggle and Rights
- 1919: Minimum wage for women set to 54 percent of the males rate
- 1921: First women elected to an Australian Parliament, Edith Cowan
- 1938: Hospital for women opened in Brisbane
- 1942: Widows pensions were introduced
- 1943: First women elected to Federal Government, Enid Lyons and Dorothy Tangney
- 1947: Jessie Street appointed as Australian representative to Unite Nations commission of the status of women
- 1950: Female basic wage set to 75% of the male basic wage
- 1962: All aboriginal women were able to vote
- 1970: Author Germaine Greer published a book about defining women's rights around the world
- 1972: Equal pay was finally achieved
- 1981: Women in New South Wales allowed to prosecute their husbands for being violent towards them
- 1983: Australia signs onto the United Nations convention against discrimination to Women
- 1984: Sex Discrimination Act made the act illegal towards the basis of the gender, pregnancy and the marital status
- 1985: National conference on domestic violence was held
- 1999: The Equal Opportunity for women in the workplace Act came into effect
- 2010: First Female prime minister, Julia Gillard
- 2011: The Australian Government released the first ever National Plan to Reduce Violence Against Women.
- 2013: The Second Action Plan was released addressing the violent crimes of domestic and family and sexual assault trying to improve women's safety
